I Did It!

For probably 2 years, no probably even longer, I have promised myself that I would learn to make pinwheels and a Dresden plate.
And, because of the inspiration I have found here with my blogging friends, and Pinterest, and You Tube tutorials, I kept my promise!
Last year I made the yo-yo pillows, but I never sewed the backs on.
Do you know, I made those yo-yo's a very long time ago for my dream house here in this beautiful valley, and here we are!
Please don't look to closely! I need to back to the tutorial at Missouri Quilt Company for Pinwheels. I did something wrong, but who will know but me! (and, everyone who reads this post).
I found these little girl dresses at yard sales last year and I cut up the two white prints for my pillows. I thought theybwere perfect for 4th of July! I'm ging to make something out of the seersucker prints later.
See the little triangles out of the dress fabric? I didn't purchase any new fabric. I had lots of fat quarters and yard sale prints to choose from. I just love the vintage prints that I used, like the patchwork quilt piece with the bits of navy.
Last week I made a table runner out of fabric samples from an interior decorator book.
I cut 4" squares out of each piece. The little books are filled with 4" by 6" pieces so fabric.
(my boss gave me the decorator samplers. 4 bins FULL! Someone had left them at our school years ago).
Aren't the fabrics pretty?
So, look what we can do for little to zero $?
I'm happy.

  6. Oh my gosh, I am drooling over the fabrics that you used! I am pinning and I have got to make some. Maybe not for this year, but next. I just put out my 4th of July décor and was thinking I need new pillows. If you made a mistake on the pinwheels I sure don't see it and I quilt. Great job!

  8. I love your pillows. Now I want to make some pinwheel pillows! How clever of you to cut up those dresses and make something adorable out of them. I would have never guessed in their past life they were dresses!! Wonderful job on the runner, too. It looks so patriotic. Whew....I can't believe that the 4th is next week. Have a wonderful day, Holly

  9. I got up early, poured myself a cuppa and caught up with your posts. Love all the holiday decorating and the swap goodies. We have had a hectic June and I have NO IDEA where my box o' 4th of July do dads may be, so enjoying them in Blogland may be all I get this year.

  12. You've done some great work with the patchwork pillows! I too have promised myself to one day make a Dresden plate cushion, and have yet to start that. Did you hand stitch the plate sections onto a backing piece? I have patterns for a couple of ways to approach this and can't decide. Your table runner is so nice as well ... looks like you're all set for July 4! Wendy :)

  16. Hi Patti,
Thank you so much for your recent visit and comment, I really appreciate it. You are quite the seamstress, beautiful work! I have bought velvet (Christmas) baby dresses so I could use the velvet for other things. Glad you found so many with red, white and blue.
Have fun and have a great Fourth!

  22. SO pretty! I never attempted the Dresden plate when I used to quilt. Maybe someday when I have time to get back to it. I just put pictures of some of my quilts I made years ago on my site, it made me want to get the old sewing machine out again! And seeing your pillows in those gorgeous patriotic colors does too! Happy 4th - Dawn
